You’ve already heard about bone broth right? If so, then I don’t need to tell you about its benefits, but I will tell you what makes Natritional’s bone broth extra special. If you haven’t had bone broth yet, don’t worry, I was in your shoes not too long ago.
Let’s go back two years to a time I refer to as Before Bone Broth (B.B.B) when I was pregnant with my first child and visiting my husband’s brother and his family. My sister-in-law was warming up something in a pot for her daughter, my beautiful niece. The aroma was familiar, but it looked different so I guess that she mixed in some different herbs and spices.
I peeked into the pot, and the contents reminded me of chicken stock, so I was surprised when a few minutes later, my niece was drinking the “stock.” I was like “what?” why are you drinking that?”. To her surprise, my sister-in-law responded “you’ve heard about bone broth right? Like seriously? It’s so good for you… you need to drink bone broth”. The next thing I know she’s making some chicken fried rice with the rest of the broth, and it was delicious. I had to try this thing called bone broth.
Fast forward to September 2020 and I’m launching a bone broth drink. So what happened between that day, two years ago and today that motivated me to do this? It turns out that bone broth is so good for you! I just had to learn that first-hand for myself, and now I am ready to share it with you.
After dinner with my niece, I took the time to do my own research and started playing around with my own broth recipes. My research was intense and my experiments were numerous. The results were amazing, so I kept going. For a brief period, it was a staple in my home, then I got busy. In between caring for a newborn and my exams, there was little time for slow-cooked superfoods as time was a premium.
Giving birth to a child is no joke! If labour were easy, men would be able to do it (Love you hubby). After childbirth, my hormones were out of whack, and my decades-long battle with acne was at its fiercest. So I decided to chat with a naturopath about it. I wanted an alternative to the pharmaceutical option, which my dermatologist had recommended. During our chat, my naturopath recommends bone broth and tallow. "Bone broth?... I used to drink lots of bone broth, but then you know life".
So I was back making bone broth. I started using it in my son's brown rice and he ate it too. About a month later, my acne was clearing up and it was too good to be true. To be honest, even my naturopath was surprised. I enjoyed making bone broth and the results I was seeing, but then the pandemic, lockdown and working from home. Before I knew it, I was too busy to make my broth. I didn't want to fall behind on my new found regimen. I decided to buy some bone broth from a natural foods store, but the way my taste buds are set up, I couldn't find something close enough to the home-cooked broth I made. I was looking for something bold and flavorful. Tasty enough to drink on its own, but rich enough to retain its flavour when used in fried rice.
I made up my mind to make a big batch and freeze it because who knew how long this pandemic and lockdown would last. I talked to my farmer, got a ton of bones and some fresh vegetables. Let's say I got a bit carried away and made more than I could store in my small freezer. This is not the first time, I've been accused of making super large portions of food. I decided to share it with my sister in law, but we did a blind taste test. She picked mine out of three other brands sold in stores. My niece was next. She is the harshest food critic and is quick to respond with a "yuck" if she doesn't like something, but I was elated when she replied with a "yum!!!"
Now it's your turn! I'm confident you'll love it too, welcome to the Natritional way of life that is all about whole foods to keep you well nourished.
